Preschool Earth Day Games and Activities

I Spy the Litter Bug

Go outdoors with the children and walk around the neighborhood.

Start off the game by spotting and describing a litter found on the ground. Have the children guess which one by giving them hints.
Example: Spot a crunch empty bag of chips. I spy with my little eye a litter that is blue and grey...

Have children take turn.

It a great way to develop children observation skills.

Litter Bug Scavenger Game

Supplies:
Litter Bug printouts
Small markers or stickersA bag and a pair of plastic gloves

Print out the Litter Bug sheet and go outside with the children. Take a walk around the neighborhood.
When a child spots a matching litter, cross it out on the sheet and give the child a sticker.
Put the litter in your bag.
See how many you can find!
Give each child a sticker at the end of game for a jobwell done!

Preschool Earth Day Crafts

Mother Earth Collage

Supplies:
Blue and green and brown tissue paper
Construction paper

Tear strips of tissue paper.
Cut out a large circle from the wax paper.
Have the children glue pieces of tissue paper all over the circle.
Cut out a circle frame out of the construction paper.
Frame the earth collage.Add a piece of string on the top of the frame and and hang it in the window.

Earth Day Hat

Supplies:
Construction paper
Newspaper
Glue
Remnants of tissue paper, construction paper, wool, strings, buttons...

Cut out a strip of 3" wide and long enough to wrap around the child's head.

Have the child decorate his/her Earth Day Hat with recycled items.


Preschool Earth Day Recipes

Mother Earth Cookies

Ingredients:

3/4 cup
butter, softened 1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar.
Add the egg, vanilla, and salt; beat until smooth.
Stir in the flour and knead lightly until a soft dough forms.
Divide the dough in half, then wrap each half in waxed paper to form a cylinder about 1-1/2 inches in diameter.
Refrigerate the dough about 2 hours.
Cut the dough into 1/4-inch slices and arrange on greased cookie sheets. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

Icing:
Stir in a few drops of blue coloring in the store bought icing sugar.
Spread icing on top of cooled cookies. Decorate with chocolate chips and pieces of green chocolate mints.
Spread cookies with vanilla icing
