Chinese New Year can begin anytime between late January and mid-February. It all depends on the phase of the New Moon.

Year of the Monkey

This year, according to the Chinese zodiac, 2016 is the year of Monkey  It starts on February 8, 2016  and lasts till January 27, 2017.

Paper Roll Snake

Preschoolers will enjoy making their own Chinese New Year crafts for Chinese New Year year of the Snake. Put on a Chinese New Year parade of the Snake!


  • Toilet Paper Roll
  • Orange Tissue Paper
  • Yellow Cardboard Paper
  • Craft Glue
  • Green Water Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors


Paint the paper roll green. This will be the snake`s head.

Cut out yellow circles for the dragons eye.

Children can glue an eye on each side of the snake`s head.

Cut out strips of 12"x 2" yellow and red tissue paper.

Tape a strip of tissue paper at the end of the paper roll. This will be the tongue coming out of the snake's mouth.
