Chinese New Year Crafts

Chinese New Year Crafts Chinese New Year can begin anytime between late January and mid-February. It all depends on the phase of the New Moon.

On this year 2012, Chinese New Year begins on Monday, January 23rd. The animal sigh is the Dragon.

Introducing Chinese New Year crafts into your program ia an easy way for children to learn about Chinese New Year.

The following chart shows you the beginning day of Chinese New Year along with the animal sign for that year. You can prepare your theme folder for Chinese New Year in advance.

2014 -January 31   - Horse
2015 -February 19 - Sheep

Chinese New Year Crafts

Year of the Dragon Crafts

Paper Roll Dragon

Preschoolers will enjoy making their own Chinese New Year Dragon Put on a Chinese New Year parade of dragons!


Supplies:

  • Toilet Paper Roll
  • Orange Tissue Paper
  • Yellow Cardboard Paper
  • Craft Glue
  • Green Water Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors

    Directions:

  • Paint the paper roll green. This will be the dragon`s head.
  • Cut out yellow circles for the dragons eye.
  • Children can glue an eye on each side of the dragon`s head.
  • Cut out strips of 12"x 2" yellow and red tissue paper.
  • Tape strips of tissue paper at the end of the paper roll. This will be the flames coming out of the dragon's mouth.

    Have the children prepare their own Paper Roll Dragons

    Dancing & waving and singing a song.
